Colombia has become known as the fashion capital of Latin America.  Some of the southern continent’s best fashion designers hail from Colombia and are impacting the industry beyond their borders. 

Indicative of their popularity in Latin America, is the growing salary of fashion designers. As Colombia’s fashion industry has grown so has the top salaries of the best in the industry. 

Here is a list of the best-paid and most popular fashion designers of Colombia according to our study:

1. Silvia Tcherassi

She invested in fashion design in 1990 with her company Altamoda and from there she has launched Bold collections and colorful designs that have made it to the big industry showcases such as the Week of Fashion in Milan, New York and Paris. Stars that have worn her designs are Valeria Mazza, Claudia Schiffer, Shakira and Gloria Estefan

Annual Salary: $120,000

2. Amelia Toro

She studied fashion design at the Rhode Island School in New York. Her collections are characterized by the use of traditional fabrics and colors of the Colombian indigenous populations, and are sold with much success in Mexico, United States, Chile, United Kingdom, Costa Rica and Panama.

3. Mauricio Guerrero

He has revolutionized the way that the Colombian female professional dresses to work. His “Ready to Go“ design concept offers females a leather wardrobe selection that is appropriate for the workplace as well as the cocktail party thus eliminating the need to change clothes. He is also widely known for his quirky leather shoe designs an colorful shirts used by the likes of Diomedes Diaz, Carlos Vives, Shakira and many Colombian models and TV personalities.

Annual Salary: $128,000

4. Haider Ackermann

This Colombian-French designer stands out for his urban style, with asymmetric cuts and a combination of fabrics in different materials to create feminine and sophisticated silhouettes. Considered by many as “the prince of fashion”, Haider Ackerman has dressed important figures of show business such as Tilda Swinton, Victoria Beckham, Penelope Cruz and Janet Jackson.

5. Astrid Suarez Uribe

Considered an innovator of shoe designs, she has built a national brand under the label of Calzado Iony.  She has designed shoes for the last three Miss. Colombia beauty queens one of which is Ariadna Gutiérrez whom Steve Harvey accidently announced as the winner of the 2015 Miss. Universe beauty pageant.

Annual Salary: $124,000 

6. Esteban Cortázar

This Bogotá designer, who became creative director of the fashion house Emanuel Ungaro, has attracted the attention of great figures of the design of fashions like Anna Wintour, publisher of the magazine Vogue. Today Cortázar dresses celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Madonna and Beyoncé.

Annual Salary: $132,000
